Our responsibilities
Tourism and Sport works with communities, businesses and Travel Alberta to showcase the beauty of Alberta and propel our tourism and sport industries to new heights.
Our ministry is responsible for:
- Alberta’s long-term provincial tourism strategy, with a goal of growing the province’s visitor economy to more than $25 billion in annual visitor expenditures by 2035
- expanding air access to the province
- addressing labour and workforce needs for the tourism and hospitality sectors
- working with Travel Alberta to drive private investment into the development of new and competitive tourism products and experiences
- investing in small and mid-sized recreation facilities across the province through the Active Communities Initiative
- attracting world-class sport events to Alberta, including through the Major Sport Events grant
- providing multi-sport games opportunities to celebrate our athletes and provide them with a venue to compete and reach their athletic potential.
- supporting Albertans from the playground to the podium through grant opportunities
