“Today, followers of the Buddhist faith in Alberta and around the world celebrate Vesak Day, also known as Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima. With origins stretching back over 2,600 years, this sacred day marks the birth, enlightenment and passing of Lord Buddha.
“It is a time for reflection on the Noble Eightfold Path and the Buddha’s timeless teachings of compassion, kindness and inner peace. Vesak is observed through meditation, spiritual renewal, and acts of merit and goodwill.
“To all who celebrate this special day, let this Vesak inspire mindfulness in thought, word and deed, and may the light of the Dharma continue to guide your path toward wisdom, liberation and the end of suffering.
