“On the National Day of Mourning, we take time to honour the Albertans who tragically lost their lives due to workplace incidents, injuries or illnesses. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every Albertan returns home safely at the end of each work day.
“We recognize that last year, 203 Albertans left for work and never made it home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and friends who are grieving the devastating loss of a loved one.
“Each life lost is a heartbreaking reminder of why workplace health and safety is always a priority. Preventing these tragedies demands action from everyone – including employers, workers, safety associations and government alike.
“Alberta’s government remains firmly committed to promoting safe and healthy workplaces, and we will continue to work with our partners to strengthen safety practices in all sectors across the province.
“Through initiatives like the OHS Prevention Initiative, ongoing updates to the Occupational Health and Safety Code, the Certificate of Recognition program, development of multilingual safety resources, and much more, Alberta’s government is taking action to reduce workplace risks and protect Alberta’s workers.
“We’re committed to protecting the safety and well-being of every worker in Alberta – regardless of where they work.
“On this Day of Mourning, let us reflect on the lives lost and work together to ensure every Albertan makes it home safely – every single day.”
